MEN IN BLACK 3 to be written by Tropic Thunder Screenwriter

Earlier this year in April, Sony announced that they would be going back to the Men In Black franchise for a third film that was set to hit theaters in 2011. At the time of the announcement there was no word on if Will Smith or Tommy Lee Jones would be back to reprise their roles. I'll be surprised if they come back. I wouldn't think Sony would want to do it without at least one of them.

I haven't heard about any movement on the project until today when the screenwriter for the film was announced. The same dude that wrote Tropic Thunder, Etan Cohen, will pound out the third installment of the Men in Black franchise. Great choice! I loved Tropic Thunder, and the guy seems to have the skills to write a great movie. Maybe Men in Black 3 won't be so bad.

Sony Pictures wants to start shooting in 2010, but there is still no word on whether or not Smith and Jones will be involved. I'm not sure why Smith wouldn't do it. Hell, the guy made Hancock, and will most likely do the sequel. As of right now, he is gearing up for the Old Boy remake.

MIB was a really fun movie that I enjoyed watching back in the day. The sequel was okay, definitely not as good as the first one. The two films combined made over one billion dollars. As for part three? I guess we'll have to wait and see whose involved and how it turns out. I hope Barry Sonnenfeld comes back to direct, but he's pretty busy with his TV stuff right now.

So what do you think about the Men in Black 3 news?
