Tony Scott to make biopic about CHIPPENDALES creator Steve Banerjee

Movie Tony Scott by Eli Reyes

Tony-Scott-Chippendales

I must start out by saying that I think Chippendales is disgusting, it's absolutely horrid. Don't get me wrong, the money was great! But I wouldn't go back... just kidding. I'd go back in a heart beat.

Director Tony Scott will helm a film about the rise and fall of Chippendales creator Steve Banerjee, who was consumed by excess and competition when the male strip clubs became a phenomenon in the 1980s.

Scott will produce via his Scott Free banner, along with David Permut's Permut Presentations and Firoz Nadiadwala.

Screen-writer Lisa Schrager(Pay the Girl/Gangsta Bitches) will adapt the script from a manuscript written by Rodney Sheldon.

The story will follow the improbable rise and fall of Banerjee, who went from pumping gas in Culver City to running a high-end nightclub that evolved into Chippendales. After hiring a New York choreographer to polish the all-male dance troupe, Banerjee became wildly rich, as well as unreasonably competitive and paranoid. Banerjee hired a hitman to murder the choreographer when negotiations went sour. After being arrested, Banerjee died in jail awaiting trial.

I never thought a hit would be ordered on a choreographer. Then again, I can't say I understand that world. Apparently they are looking to make the  film similar in tone to Scott's True Romance, the 1993 cult favorite written by Quentin Tarantino. If he's able to accomplish this, then I'm on board. But Scott's work as of late, is almost unrecognizable form his earlier work.

Scott is currently directing frequent collaborator Denzel Washington, opposite Chris Pine(Star Trek) in Unstoppable for 20th Century Fox. I'm hoping Scott does his take on The Warriors before he does the Banjeree Biopic. Let us know what you think in the rant-back section below.
