Here's an intense looking trailer for fist-time director Oren Moverman's modern-day war drama The Messenger. The film features a brilliant cast including one of our favorites, Ben Foster(3:10 to Yuma/Alpha Dog), box-office stud and all around bad-ass Woody Harrelson(Zombieland), Jena Malone, who's name I didn't even have to see to know she'd be in this, and two-time academy award nominee Samantha Morton(In America).
The Messenger centers on U.S. Army officer Will Montgomery(Foster) who has just returned home from a tour in Iraq and is assigned to the Army's Casualty Notification service. Partnered with fellow officer Tony Stone (Harrelson) to bear the bad news to the loved ones of fallen soldiers, Will faces the challenge of completing his mission while seeking to find comfort and healing back on the home front. When he finds himself drawn to Olivia (Morton), to whom he has just delivered the news of her husband's death.
The film has been generating quite a buzz and winning awards in the festival circuit. But the cast alone has me hooked. Too bad Foster's last film, Pandorum wasn't able to fully showcase his talents. This looks like a much more promising vehicle.

The Messenger will begin it's limited release November 13th, and expand November 20th.
