Comics to film company Platinum Studios is teaming up with William Stuart's Aurora Productions to bring Platinums graphic novel Nightfall to life on the big screen. The concept of this story sounds pretty cool. It tells the story of a man who finds out just how bad life can get when he discovers that the prison he just entered is controlled by vampires.

When industrious, right-wing survivalist David Paxton is sent to a tough Texas prison, he has no idea that it’s secretly run by vampires using the inmates to feed on. Now, Paxton’s one hope of escape is a desperate prison riot and an uneasy alliance with a ruthless killer named Robbart.

William Stuart will produce with Platinum Studios' Chairman and CEO Scott Mitchell Rosenberg. Former Universal Pictures senior executive Randy Greenberg of The Greenberg Group, who helped negotiate the deal, would be an executive producer. Stuart says,

Nightfall is an extraordinary opportunity to make a fantastic horror/thriller in a genre which is unbelievably hot right now. Platinum Studios has wonderful creative depth and a proven ability to make things happen.

The genre that is unbelievably hot right now is vampires. But seriously, when haven't vampire movies been unbelievably hot? Just because all the girls are loving the hell out of the Twilight movies doesn't mean every vampire movie being made now is going to be a big hit.

The graphic novel was written by Scott O. Brown, illustrated by Gerran Xalabarder and published in 2007. Platinum is also currently developing Cowboys & Aliens, Unique, The Witchblade and Atlantis Rising, and they just wrapped The Wild Girl, and are in development on The Travel Writer, Infinity and Journal of the Dead.

I like the concept for Nightfall though a prison run by vampires could turn out to be an interesting film to watch.

What are your thoughts on the adaptation of NIGHTFALL?
