Wallpaper Stops Wrecking Ball

Stand aside, Grandma. You won't be finding paisley or flowers on this bad boy.  This stuff can stop a wrecking ball in it's tracks when covering a wall with a single application. Weighing in at a measly 6 ounces per square foot, it's a wonder that this sheet of sticky paper could withstand a bowling ball, much less cast iron with the weight of 500 lbs per cubic foot.

Leave it to the US Army to dream up this idea, teaming up with Berry Plastics to make the strongest wallpaper of all time: the "X-FLEX™ Blast Protection System." Natural disasters, terrorist attacks, an angry ex-army vet for a neighbor that happens to have an RPG in his closet. (Sorry Lt. Dan) You name it, X-Flex can handle it! Or can they?

It was because of these lofty claims that Popular Science had to put it to the test. (video below)

As you can see from the demonstration, this flimsy looking wallpaper actually lives up to the hype. Hence X-Flex earned itself a rightful place in the Popsci Top 100 Best Innovations of the Year, the staff saying that the wallpaper...

bonds so tightly, it helps walls keep their shape after blast waves. Two layers are strong enough to stop a blunt object, like a flying 2x4, from knocking down drywall. During our tests, just a single layer kept a wrecking ball from smashing through a brick wall.

Now it's only available to protect those military types who protect us.  However, this tough-as-nails wallpaper will be in your homes as early as next year. The price point will be high, but would it be worth it to know your family is safe during those dangerous weather seasons?
