Bryan Singer Directing X-MEN: FIRST CLASS!

It looks like the director who brought the first two X-Men films to life on the big screen, Bryan Singer, will return to the X-Men franchise by directing the X-Men Origins film X-Men: First Class!

Where did the information come from? Ummm.... Bryan Singer of course! Singer made the announcement from the Avatar Blue Carpet premiere and it was streamed live to 80,000+ people on Ustream/MySpace. According to Flickchart via twitter:

Bryan Singer just leaked that he's directing the next X-men Origins film on the AVATAR "blue carpet". What do you think about that?

Yep. “X-Men First Class” will be an “Origins” film. He said he just sealed the deal with the studio.

I'm not at all surprised by this news. Back in June of this year Singer gave an interview in which he said he was definitely still interested in getting back involved with the X-Men franchise. Then in October he said that he was actually talking to FOX about returning to the franchise saying:

I’m still looking to possibly returning to the X-Men franchise. I’ve been talking to Fox about it. I love Hugh Jackman. I love the cast.

And now here we are! He's sealed the deal with the FOX and he will indeed direct it. I think this is great news! I loved the first two X-Men films that he directed. He knows the characters, the story and history of this group of super mutants, and he loves the franchise, so why shouldn't he direct it? He seems like the man for the job.

FOX has been wanting to get this film into production for some time now and now everything is falling into place. The question is, when will it get made? He is already signed on to direct Jack The Giant Killer, Excalibur, Battlestar Galactica and now he adds X-Men: First Class to his list of films. So it may be a few years before we actually see this X-Men film come to life. But no worries, in the mean time we are going to get to see a hopefully better sequel to Wolverine and a Deadpool spin-off movie.

The movie, which is set to follow the early days of Professor Xavier's school for mutants, was written by Josh Schwartz and is being produced by Lauren Schuler Donner who has been involved with all of the X-Men movies. According to an interview she gave back in April,

It is the first class of Xavier’s school, way back when, so it’s young Scott, young Jean, young Beast and that’ll be really fun. I think (the plan) is to follow some of the characters into their own stories, and weave them back into the X-Men world.

And hopefully First Class will become its own franchise and we can follow them as they grow up.

So this will possibly be the first of many X-Men: First Class films we will see from Singer. The comic book series was really good and with Singer on board the movies should end up being great. Personally I think Singer is exactly what the X-Men franchise needs right now. After he stopped directing it, what happened? The movies sucked.

What are your thoughts on Bryan Singer coming back to direct more X-Men movies?
