As you know The Terminator franchise has gone up for sale. The Halcyon Company is looking to have some kind of deal done by February. During the last month the company has talked to several serious buyers that include major movie studios. Even though the franchise will not be in the same hands of the studio that made Terminator: Salvation, McG seems very confident that he will in fact be directing the next two Terminator films. Now unless he is the guy that ends up buying it, I don't see why any other studio would want him to direct anymore Terminator movies. I thought he did an awful job directing Terminator: Salvation. That movie was a piece of crap.
McG recently did a Blu-Ray Live commentary thing and Gizmodo liveblogged all of it. So what was the recation to what McG was saying?
He just announced that he's making another Terminator movie. Seriously.
Oh and for those people who are punching themselves in the face that he's making another one? He said he's making one after that.
And now McG is being coy about making another one? I don't get it.
And now he's talking about a second or third movie again.
He says Sarah Connor is going to be in the next film, but he's not sure how he's going to pull that off.
Holy shit. He just said he thought he could make a better movie than #1 or #2.
I seriously can't believe McG made that last statement. That just pisses me off even more, but apparently it happened. McG actually thinks he could make a better Terminator movie than the first two. McG is truly lost in la la land.
If he has a contract with Warner Bros. and Halcyon, fine, but if this franchise gets sold to any other company then I'd say that contract is dead and we don't have to see any more Terminator movies from him. Hell even if Warner Bros. did end up buying it I hope to hell they are smart enough not to bring him back to direct another one.
So what do you think about McG's confidence in making two more Terminator movies.

I think he did an okay job directing it - the shots and camera work he set up (e.g., the upside-down shot when Connor crashes the helicopter) and the filters and set designs he used were great for creating a really bleak, disorienting landscape, which was perfect for a Terminator flick. The problem with the movie was that someone let Christian Bale bully his way into playing Connor, and then bully his way into getting the script re-written so that Connor got a bunch of face-time (or so I've heard).
Seriously, if you re-edit the film in your head so that it's all from the perspective of Marcus and Connor is just a voice or, at most, a mysterious shadowy figure who shows up for only a few minutes of the film, then it's a much different, much better movie. Marcus' character development - which should have been the central theme and plot point - doesn't fall flat like it did in McG's version, Connor as a saviour figure becomes much more interesting, and the final scene - in which (so I've heard) Marcus is supposed to donate his heart to save Kyle, not Connor - makes way more sense and has a great deal more impact...
