It's no secret that Sony Pictures is moving forward with Men in Black 3. While we are still waiting to hear if Will Smith and Tommy Lee Jones will reprise their roles, LA Times reveals that actor Josh Brolin is being considered for a lead role in the film that will put him in the black suit and sunglasses. Smith is expected to return, but there's still no official announcement.

There a a few possibilities of what part Brolin will end up playing if officially cast. The role of his character is currently being discussed and here's what it could be:

  • He could play a new single-monikered government agent, with Tommy Lee Jones' Agent K passing the baton to Brolin's character.

  • He could play Agent K as a young man.

  • Or something something entirely different.

Original MIB director Barry Sonnenfeld is tentatively attached to come back and direct the third film, which is based on a script written by Tropic Thunder screenwriter Etan Cohen. The film has yet to be green lit but Sony is hoping that it starts shooting in 2010.

I'd love to see Sonnenfeld back on board to direct the new film and Tropic Thunder was absolutely brilliant so I have faith that he wrote a funny ass script.

At this point it all comes down to whether or not Brolin has time to shoot the film because he's a busy guy these days. He's already got 2 films lined up to star in for 2010, including the Coen brothers' remake of True Grit and the Mafia crime drama Cartel. Maybe he could squeeze one more in there.

If Brolin joins the cast of Men In Black 3, it would take the production to a whole new value of awesomeness.

What do you think about Brolin being cast in MIB 3?
