Valentines Day Special: 10 Movies where people Kill in the Name of Love

by Joey Paur

Hey Gang! As you know tomorrow is Valentine's Day so I wanted to put together a list of movies for you that represent the power of love. This is the kind of love that drives a person to kill other people. Why would they kill in the name of love? There are a few reasons such as: revenge, protection, and to save someone in trouble. So I got together with Mr. Black and Mazer and came up with a list of movies that you can watch with your loved ones for Valentine's Day, that isn't a sappy dramatic romance or a romantic comedy. These movies have got some balls, but at the same time the underlying message of these movies is love and how the person going on the rampage is so much in love that they must kill to fill the emptiness within them because of what was taken away. In no particular order here is GeekTyrant's top 10 killer Valentine's day movies:

The Crow

"I have something to give you. I don't want it anymore. Thirty hours of pain all at once, all for you."

This is about a man that is brutally murdered who comes back to life to avenge his fiancé's murder. Now that's love.

Braveheart

"Aye, fight and you may die. Run, and you'll live... at least a while. And dying in your beds, many years from now, would you be willin' to trade ALL the days, from this day to that, for one chance, just one chance, to come back here and tell our enemies that they may take our lives, but they'll never take... OUR FREEDOM!"

Here we have a guy that is secretly married to the love of his life because he won't share her with an English lord. This nasty old dude gets suspicious and tries to rape her. Wallace and her try to escape but she gets caught and they slit her throat. This causes William Wallace to go berserker and start a journey to overthrow English rule and avenge the death of his wife and win Scotland's freedom.

Troy

"I've fought many wars in my time. Some I've fought for land, some for power, some for glory. I suppose fighting for love makes more sense than all the rest."

The whole reason for this crazy war was over a woman! Helen Queen of Sparta is convinced by the Trojan prince Paris to leave her husband, and sail back to Troy. When Menelaus finds out he asks his brother Agamemnom to help get her back. They send 1,000 ships and 50,000 Greek soldiers to Troy. With Achilles help the Greeks defeat the Trojans. In the end Prince Paris and Helen Escape. So many lives lost over a woman.

Memento

Natalie: What's the last thing that you do remember?
Leonard Shelby: My wife...
Natalie: That's sweet.
Leonard Shelby: ...dying.

Here is a guy who suffers from short term memory loss, who uses notes and tattoos to hunt down the man who he thinks killed his wife.

Clash of the Titans

"Perseus and Andromeda will be happy together. Have fine sons... rule wisely... And to perpetuate the story of his courage, I command that from henceforth, he will be set among the stars and constellations. He, Perseus, the lovely Andromeda, the noble Pegasus, and even the vain Cassiopeia. Let the stars be named after then forever. As long as man shall walk the Earth and search the night sky in wonder, they will remember the courage of Perseus forever. Even if we, the gods, are abandoned or forgotten, the stars will never fade. Never. They will burn till the end of the time."

Perseus can't help but fall in love with the beautiful Princess Andromeda. She is captured and is to be offered up as a sacrifice to the Kraken. To Save her Perseus must go on a journey and go through a series of tests and challenges to save her. The main one being to obtain the head of Medusa, that will help him defeat the giant Kraken and save Andromeda.

Punisher (2004)

"Those who do evil to others - the killers, the rapists, psychos, sadists - you will come to know me well. Frank Castle is dead. Call me... The Punisher."

Frank Castle's wife and children are all murdered, so he takes it upon him self to punish and destroy those who were responsible for his family's death.

Last of the Mohicans

"No, you submit, do you hear!? You be strong, you survive... You stay alive! No matter what occurs! I will find you. No matter how long it takes, no matter how far, I will find you!"

Hawkeye then goes out and kills lots of people after she submits.

Let the Right One In

Oskar: I don't kill people.
Eli: No, but you'd like to. If you could... To get revenge. Right?
Oskar: Yes.
Eli: Oskar, I do it because I have to.

A strange girl named Eli who happens to be a Vampire moves into the same building as Oskar a young boy who is bullied. The two form a strong loving bond with each other and they end up wanting to help each other out. For their love to endure the need to survive, to survive people need to die, each one of them is willing to take another human life in the name of love.

Barker returns to London with a new name; Sweeny Todd, and is told his wife committed suicide because of what happened. He then goes on a murderous rampage, which will leads him to kill those people that took his family from him.

Romeo & Juliet - Whatever Version You Prefer

"Death, that hath sucked the honey of thy breath, hath had no power yet upon thy beauty."

Do I really need to explain this one? We all know the story. Romero and Juliet are so much in love that in the end they kill themselves because they can't live without each other. That's hardcore romance.
