NEVERENDING STORY: Another Childhood Film Classic Gets Jacked

by Joey Paur

I am a product of the 80's and 'The Neverending Story' is a movie I grew up watching and loving. I have shown this 1984 film to my kids and they love it as well, even though the movie was made so long ago. I hate the fact that Warner Bros. acquired the rights to the property, that The Kennedy/Marshall Co, and Leonardo DiCaprio's Appian Way are currently talking about bringing back the 25 year old franchise. Of course they want to put a modern spin on the story.

The original movie directed by Wolfgang Petersen is about a boy named Bastian Balthazar Bux who is a loner that discovers a parallel world in a book titled "The NeverEnding Story." As the boy gets deeper into the book, he increasingly finds his life intertwined with the plot of the novel, in which a hero in the land of Fantasia must save the universe on behalf of an empress. That empress played by Tami Stronach was my first movie girl crush.

I could care less about the crap sequel that was made in 1990 and the third one made in 1996. Those two sequels were awful.

I hate that Warner Bros. is going to make yet another Neverending Story loser movie. There is no way in hell it will live up to the standards of the original film that was developed in a time when there was no Harry Potter or Lord of the Rings movies. Fantasy movies were not a Hollywood fad at the time 'Clash of the Titans' came out a couple years before, but thats about it, and now thats being remade as well.

There is no stopping it. Hollywood is going to remake what ever the hell they want no matter what. Some movies I just wish they didn't feel they need to touch and try to improve on. In the end no matter what they do these remakes will never be as good as the originals.
