STAR TREK New Trailer Description

by Joey Paur

As you may or may not know The new Star Trek trailer will debut with the 'Watchmen' movie this weekend! One of our readers sent over a description of the trailer that was shown at WonderCon that you can read below. It sounds like it is going to be a pretty cool trailer, and I can't wait to see it.

The new trailer begins with the same scene from the first trailer with Chris Pine as James Kirk riding a motorcycle through the desert of his hometown, briefly shows the bar fight scene, then cuts to Bruce Greenwood as Captain Pike telling Kirk about how his father saved the lives of three hundred people on the ship; unlike the footage we saw earlier, the trailer shows a brief glimpse of the actual disaster which ultimately killed his father, and Pike challenges Kirk to do better, "I dare you to do better…enlist in Starfleet."" and follow in his father's footsteps. We then see Kirk as a private at the Starfleet Academy and one of his instructors is Zachary Quinto as Spock telling the class, "You will experience fear. Fear of certain death"

Throughout the trailer, we saw quite a few bits from the extended clip where Kirk and Sulu freefall towards a Romulan drilling platform hovering over Vulcan and get into a fight with two guards, but as we learned before, they're not successful and in one impressive shot, we see the results of the Romulan bombs as we see an entire planet (presumably Vulcan) being disintegrated.

A title card appears that reads "Prepare..." Then we see a close-up of Eric Bana as Nero saying "I have been waiting for this day my whole life this day of reckoning" followed by more effects shots of battle, including Enterprise. Then there is a shot of the bridge of Enterprise with Karl Urban as Bones saying "we’ve got no captain and no first officer to replace him" to which Chris Pine replies in a serious tone "yeah we do" as he slowly sits in the captain’s chair. Another title card. "... For the Beginning." Throughout the trailer, we see a few bits with Eric Bana's Romulan leader Nero, at one point telling someone, "James T. Kirk was a great man" and then ordering his Romulans to attack, and we see a lot of "prepare for battle" sequences on the Enterprise bridge.

There are much more outer space shots in this new trailer, and we get to see Winona Ryder as Amanda Grayson. It ends with a brief shot of an enormous space battle with the Enterprise being attacked, presumably by Romulan ships.

Apparently the trailer went over very well in the crowd, and that they went crazy when Kirk took the Captains chair for the first time. I'll be looking forward to watching it when I go to the midnight screening of 'Watchmen' again this week!
