As you know Spider-Man 4 is currently being developed and is still in pre-production. Sam Raimi is set to direct and Tobey Maguire is locked and loaded to take on the role of Peter Paker again. From the sound of it 'Spider-Man 4' is going back as a character study on the man who is Spider-man... Peter Parker, and Raimi may end up taking the character into a new direction, exploring him in a different light. Raimi explains:
“I hope that we just [look] ever deeper into the truth of who Peter Parker really is — as a human being and the unique character, and that we celebrate that, which is a lot of the reason I want to make this next picture, I still believe I have an understanding of Peter Parker as the character that I have not quite put onto the screen yet.”
I'm all for it! Most super heroes have so many differnt layers to them you could do a full movie on each personality trait. It's interesting that showing this new side of Peter Parker is one of the main reasons he is making the movie. It is going to play a main part of the story obviously. Rami also tells us about what is going on with whether Kirsten Dunst will come back as Mary Jane in the film. He must have a pretty big place for her in the movie because he is trying to get her back in. He say of the matter:
"I'm hoping that she is going to come aboard, and I've got a meeting coming up with her, I think she would like to. But I don't want to speak on behalf of her."
Personally I thought she was the weakest link of the movies, but to come back and recast the character at this point is kind of silly. So I am all for her coming back, technically she has made the role of Mary Jane her own. Honest Spider-Man wouldn't be the same with out her. But who cares what I think, what do you all think?
