Movie Trailer for My Sister's Keeper

by Jessica Fisher

I saw Cameron Diaz today on Oprah, and got to see an extended clip on her latest film My Sister's Keeper, due out June 26. This film has a great cast including Diaz, Jason Patric, Abigail Breslin, Alec Baldwin, and introducing Sofia Vassilieva, who you may know as Patricia Arquette's daughter on the show Medium.

The movie is based on a book by Jodi Piccoult, by the same name. The story is about a girl named Kate, played by Vassilieva, who has been fighting a battle with leukemia since she was very young. Her parents are unable to find bone marrow matches, and other medical matches willing to help with various problems Kate is facing. So the parents, played by Diaz and Patric, conceive another child (Breslin) through genetic engineering who can serve as a permanent match to help her sister. Or as it was put on Oprah's show, she is conceivably raised as "spare parts". Her character Anna has always known a life of surgery and recovery, and as she is facing entering her teenage years, she decides to take control of her body and what is done to it by opting for emancipation from her family, despite her love for her sister.

The story sounds interesting, and just from the clip it looks like the acting is going to be pretty great. I have read a few of Piccoult's novels, and she always seems to be able to get you to think about each side of a story, and make you think twice about how you would react in the shoes of the characters you are reading about. I think it looks like an interesting film.
