George Lucas' long awaited live-action Star Wars TV show is back in the news and it is still trucking forward. The last we heard we reported that the power at be were holding auditions to cast it. That was back in March. Now word has hit the street via SCI FI AU that pre-production has started, and that the show will be shooting in Australia. The report:

The quality and style of writing that will be used will be of the highest quality, and local, and writers will be sourced from outside traditional Science Fiction shows. Several big names within the Australian industry (including writers from the Award-winning Love My Way and the Award-winning Secret Life of Us) have been approached by Star Wars uber-producer, Rick McCallum.

I've never seen these shows, but they are spoken of very highly.

I'm so excited to hear that this series is gaining some momentum. According to Lucas, the show will focus on minor characters from the saga and be set in the time period between “Revenge of the Sith” (Episode III) and the original “Star Wars” (Episode IV). The action will follow the Rebel Alliance as it slowly gains strength against the Empire. There will be Stormtroopers, but no Jedi or Darth Vader will appear on screen. As he did with the “Clone Wars” series, Lucas will write and shoot an entire year’s worth of episodes before looking for a cable channel on which to air the series. Because he can do that. Lucas has also described it as “Deadwood meets The Sopranos in space” and that it will be darker, grittier, and more character based. I have also heard that there will be several cameos from other major Star Wars characters.

Since this is still in the early stages and Lucas wants to shoot an entire years worth of episodes before he airs them we have quite a long ass way to go. Regardless of how long it takes are you happy that this is actually going happen?
