The Director of TRON LEGACY will Take on OBLIVION Next

Joseph Kosinski director of the upcoming film Tron Legacy which is sure to kick some major ass is developing an original concept that he came up with called Oblivion. He actually started working on the four years ago, when he first moved to L.A. and was going to use it as a way to jump-start his feature directing career. It looks like he did ok without it but now that he is in the Hollywood system the project can be fully realized.

The story centers on a battle-damaged soldier who, assigned to a desolate planet after a court-martial, patrols the bleak landscape in an effort to destroy the last vestiges of a primitive alien race. When a mysterious traveler arrives unexpectedly, their lives become inextricably linked as they are forced to question everything they know about this world and themselves.

Kosinski said in a recent interview:

"I was looking to make a science fiction film that I could do on a budget. It's grown since then, but it's intended to be a very spare science fiction film, with a small cast but big ideas and big landscapes."

Oblivion will also be turned into an graphic novel through Radical Publishing, who is also producing the film as well. Radical Pictures also has a few other feature films that they are developing from Radical Publishing titles, including the recently set up Shrapnel, with Len Wiseman directing and producing, and Abattoir, with Darren Lynn Bousman writing, directing and producing. Caliber is  set as a co-production with Johnny Depp's Infinitum Nihil shingle; Hercules: The Thracian Wars is being done with Spyglass/Universal, with Peter Berg attached to produce with an eye to direct; and New Regency's Freedom Formula, to be produced by Bryan Singer's Bad Hat Harry Prods.

It's awsome to see orignal ideas like Oblivion being brought to life. What do you think of the idea?
