THE GATE Gets the Funding to be Remade

We reported awhile back that one of my favorite horror movies as a kid was going to get the remake treatment. That movie is The Gate, which you might remember stars a young Stephen Dorff, and follows three kids who accidentally unleash a nasty little group of demons from a hole in a backyard. The best part of the film was watching them fight off these little monsters and stopping them from taking over the world.

We weren't sure if this remake was actually going to happen because it didn't have the funding to back it. It doesn't look like that will be a problem anymore because the studio making the film has received funding a couple German based production companies. So the movie is now for sure moving forward.

The Gate remake will be shot in 3-D because that is the hip Hollywood thing to do these days, and it is being directed by Alex Winter. You will know Alex as an actor from such films as Bill and Ted, and The Lost Boys.

Visual effects for The Gate will be delivered by the Frankfurt and Stuttgart studios of Pixomondo. Its recent credits include Niki Muellerschoen's The Red Baron, Roland Emmerich's 2012 and James McTeigue's Ninja Assassin.

I'll be surprised in this movie becomes a decent hit. It would be nice if it ends up being better than the original film, but how often does that happen?
