Gerard Butler to star in Marc Forster Film called MACHINE GUN PREACHER

Sam Childers was a drug-dealing hardcore biker who got himself into a lot of trouble in his life. The man eventually found God and turned his life around. He became a crusader for hundreds of Sudanese children who had been kidnapped and forced into becoming soldiers.

This is a true story that you may have heard about, and actor Gerard Butler and director Marc Forster are teaming up to bring this story to the big screen. Butler will play the role of Childers and Forster will direct the film off of a script that he developed with Jason Keller

A news story based on this mans life was shown on NBC Dateline, shortly after that producer Robbie Brenner and Jason Keller tracked down Keller and aquired the rights to his memoir Another Man's War: The True Story of One Man's Battle to Save the Children in Sudan.

According to Deadline Hollywood when Childers was approached by the producers the meeting went something like this,

Who the hell are you, and why the fuck should I trust you with my life story?

Apparently the told him what he wanted to hear because they are going to make the movie.

Raised by a tough ironworker father and taught to be a brawler with a hatred of bullies, Childers emerged from a dead-end future to become a preacher who found some real bullies to battle. Moved by the stories of the atrocities committed by rebels under the command of Joseph Kony’s Lord’s Resistance Army, Childers established an orphanage to house 200 children, then formed a militia to protect them, recover other kidnapped kids, and dispense outlaw justice on their captors.

This story definitely will make for a great film. There are stories out there that need to be told to the world and this is definitely one of them. They hope to start production on the film later this year.

Marc Forster has directed films such as Stranger Than Fiction, The Kite Runner, and Quantum of Solace. He is also attached to direct World war Z and The Chancellor Manuscript. I think this Machine Gun Precher film is in good hands.

What are your thoughts on this Machine Gun Preacher project?
