Leonardo DiCaprio Vs Daniel Day Lewis in Mark Millar Created NEMESIS Movie!?

Nemesis is a comic book series that is coming from the sick mind of Kick-Ass creator Mark Millar. I am very much looking forward to reading Nemesis when it comes out, and watching the movie, which looks like it is on its way to being made. This story pretty much explores the possibility of a person with the same status of someone like Bruce Wayne or Tony Stark, only he uses his status and money to carry out evil deeds. It pretty much asks the question, what if Batman was the Joker?

Here is how Millar describes it:

All the cops are needed to go up against a guy as formidable as this. He's almost supernatural, he's so good. But he happens to just be in a costume. Hopefully nobody's ever seen anything like it before. We're so used to supervillains fighting superheroes, I just thought, "Imagine if there was only one person on the planet like this, and he was actually a bad guy." How would cops deal with him, even though he has no super-powers? ...Very simply, I wanted to do a book about the world's greatest villain up against America's greatest cop. I just liked the high concept of that - the idea of a villain going around from country to country and having a battle of wits with the best guy that he can get his hands on. And he sends them a little funeral wreath with the date and time of when they're going to die on it, every one dying at precisely that time. All these cops in the Pacific Rim are dead, and then we come in at the American side of the story and see the struggle of this guy in just trying to stop him.

This concept just sounds incredibly badass and Miller is currently talking to directors about bringing the story to life on the big screen. With the most recent director he has talked to, the names Leonardo DiCaprio and Daniel Day Lewis were brought up as potential casting choices. Here is what he had to say via his blog.

Okay, am pretty drunk. I downed many Guinnesses as my gang re-watched Spidey 2 tonight (a master-piece, btw) and am now weirdly wide awake. But have spoken to three directors about the Nemesis movie in the past seven days, none of whom have read the scripts and all of whom are basing our chats entirely on the visuals and high concepts you guys have seen.

Anyway, as you know I don't want anyone to see this until the whole series is written and that's at least into next month. THAT SAID, the director I got hooked up with early this evening is literally one of the best in the biz. He's someone I totally trust in terms of movie-making and he knows his comics too. We chatted about the property for an hour and his ideas were insane, the stuff that had me buzzing being his notion of DiCaprio as Nemesis versus Daniel Day-freakin-Lewis as America's best cop.

Yes, just maybe the two greatest actors in contemporary cinema.

He's friends with one of these guys, reckons we could be in production by the end of the year and the movie out possibly as early as 2012, which is just insane. My plan was to hold off til March and take advantage of the Kick-Ass movie hoopla, but to be honest it doesn't get much better than this. I love movies and I love comics and this guys speaks our language. I'm wasted and ready for bed, but also v excited at the prospect.

How great would it be to see Day Lewis and Dicaprio go at it again! Both of these guys are extremely talented actors, and they worked great together in Gangs of New York. So why not a film like this? It would be incredible to see.

Keep in mind that Millar says he was drunk when he wrote this so who knows. It would be nice to know what directors he is talking to about the project. But if what he's saying is true this film could be going into production by the end of the year.

I hope there is truth to what he is saying because this concept is pretty damn awesome and it would make for a great film. It would be great if this all came together.

What do you all think?
