Johnny Depp Wants To Remake THE THIN MAN With Rob Marshall Directing

Johnny Depp is interested in doing a remake of The Thin Man after he finishes filming Pirates of the Caribbean 4.  Depp likes working with Rob Marshall so much that he wants him to direct the film for Warner Bros.

Currently there is not a script for this remake but loads of source material stemming from the book by Dashiell Hammett following the exploits of Nick Charles, a retired hard-boiled gumshoe who marries into money and and becomes a full time trophy husband and alcoholic.

Despite the book by Hammett not being a huge it, it spawned six films for MGM starring William Powell and Myrna Loy.  There was also a short lived television series on NBC between 1957 and 1959.  It is reported that Johnny Depp has been interested in this project to be produced by his sisters production company Infinitum Nihil, along with Kevin McCormick.

Depp is such a versatile actor that I can imagine him transforming himself into any role that he wants. Not only is he one of the best actors out there he is also a decent human being if reports of his kindness are correct.  Regardless, I believe that the best films are the ones where actors and directors get along together and know how each other works.  It will be interesting to see if Rob Marshall gets involved.

What are your thoughts of Johnny Depp playing Nick Charles in a remake to The Thin Man
