Carey Mulligan Rises To The Top For Role In THE GREAT GATSBY

Every young leading actress has been in contention for Baz Luhrman's adaptation of The Great Gatsby. Until recently Rebecca Hall and Scarlett Johansson were at the top of the list.  Hall and Johansson have decided to move on from the project to other films.  Hall is considering a role as an IRA Terrorist and Johansson is looking at a role as Matt Damon's love interest.  

As of now, Carey Mulligan has moved her way up as top choice, but that could change.  According to Vulture, Luhrmann really wanted Johansson in the role, but when she committed to We Bought A Zoo she was out of the running.

The Great Gatsby will begin filming next summer with Leonardo DiCaprio in the lead as Gatsby.  The role of Nick Carraway is still up for grabs at the moment.   At one time, it was rumored that Shia Lebouf was in line for the role of Carraway, but that has changed since Lebouf and Mulligan have broken up.
