Marvel's Ultimate Comics to Change with "Death of Spider-Man"

Marvel sent out a press release today announcing “The Death of Spider-Man, a “groundbreaking” new story arc that will set to occur within the pages of Ultimate Spider-Man and Ultimate Avengers vs. New Ultimates. From Brian Michael Bendis and Mark Millar, the story will supposedly “forever” change the Ultimate ‘verse. For those keeping score at home, a variation of the word “ultimate” was used four times in this paragraph. Wait, make that five.

“As a group and as individuals we have made a conscious effort to create stories this year that no one has ever seen before,” said Bendis. “I am very, very proud to be a part of this storyline and very proud of Marvel for even attempting such a bold endeavor. Sit back and watch as we unveil a storyline unlike any other!!”

The storyline begins with a prelude in Ultimate Spider-Man #153 and a full story in Ultimate Avengers vs. New Ultimates, both of which release in February. Here’s hoping all this “groundbreaking” talk isn’t merely hyperbole; the hero’s death followed by the hero’s resurrection isn’t exactly unique in the House of Ideas (not to mention comics in general).
