Timur Bekmambetov's APOLLO 18 Has A New Director

Spanish filmmaker Gonzalo Lopez-Gallego has stepped in to direct Apollo 18.  This Bekmambetov produced film won after a bidding battle by The Weinstein Company during AFM.  Originally the film was to be directed by Trevor Caewood following a script written by Brian Miller. All that has changed and Lopez-Gallego has stepped in.  He has worked with Dimension during their release of his film King of the Hill.

Everything has to go off without any issues to meet the March 4, 2011 release date.  Caewood's vfx company was originally going to handle all visual effects.  Because of time constraints, and the company's involvement in other projects, it became clear that adding Apollo 18 would make it difficult to make the date.  

Bekmambetov will now do all the work in-house through Bazelevs, his Moscow-based facility. This will allow the film to meet the looming deadline for its March release.  Apollo 18 will use a documentary-style that is based on "found footage" from Apollo 18's undocumented and covert mission to the moon, which revealed evidence of an alien life form.

Anytime I hear Bekmambetov is involved in a project I get excited.  He is a solid director and producer with a great track record of entertaining films.  The concept of this films sounds like it may be more up my alley.  I love a good science fiction film and the fact that there is a little bit of conspiracy thrown in sounds cool too.
