George Clooney to adapt ENRON Play

Movie George Clooney by Joey Paur

According to Times Online, George Clooney will adapt an Enron stage play for the big screen. Spider-Man franchise producer Laura Ziskin has acquired the rights and said she will produce the film.

Playwright Lucy Prebble is writing the screenplay for the project, which tells the story of the spectacular decline of the U.S. energy company.

Clooney will most likely direct the film which he's co-producing. There's no word yet on if he will take a role in the film as well. In case you're wondering, the British stage cast will not be involved with the film project, neither is the stage director Rupert Goold.

"Once you've done something... you've done it," Ziskin said about their exclusion. "Let that stand on its own."

I haven't seen the play, but the whole story behind Enron is a very interesting story and should make for a good film. It doesn't surprise me that Clooney would want to be involved with a film like this.  He loves these political type stories.
