Zac Efron is the Next Spiderman?

The British tabloid Ok! Magazine came out yesterday, and said that Zac Efron would be the next Spiderman. This is a bold assertion since everything up until now has just been speculation.

The High School Musical star has had his name thrown in the mix of potentials that could play the web crawler, but nothing has officially been announced by Sony. 

It was rumored that Tobey Maguire was the person who suggested Efron for the part. If the rumor is legitimate, and Efron is in fact the new Spiderman, then his loyal audience of teen girls will surly follow, but what about the rest of us?

The fact that Efron has mostly been featured in movies where teens with unnaturally white teeth sing poorly written Disney pop music makes me slightly apprehensive as to what we could expect from Efron as a superhero. However, it's possible he's the perfect choice to reboot the franchise.

The Magazine article went on to say that Vanessa Hudgens, Efron's co-star in High School Musical, might be offered the role of Mary Jane.

Before you gouge your eyes out with a stylus, remember this: OK! Magazine is known for its gossip columns, not for its journalistic prowess. Looking for legitimacy in one of their articles is about as reliable as Weekly World News’ article where Mona Lisa is categorized as a common prostitute. Still, TMZ, one of the biggest gossip websites, was the first to say that Michael Jackson had died, and they were right. So it has to make you wonder if what OK! wrote is true. If it turns out to be Efron, what then?
