Exclusive Interview: Director Robert Angelo Masciantonio Vs. Brian  S

The cool ass and very busy director Robert Angelo Masciantonio took a short break and talked to me about his projects, past and future especially the highly anticipated Neighbor. Horror fans in the Uk be on the lookout for neighbor this Spring!

Brian  S-  You've been working on your cool horror flick 'neighbor', what can you tell us about it?

RAM- "neighbor" was created to see how far I could push the envelope.  A bar was set with movies like"Hostel" and "Saw" that I thought would be fun to try to pass.  I wanted people to feel saturated when it was over... I thought it would be funny to give out hand towels at the screenings but didn't want people to get the wrong idea.  At the same time, there's actually a story tucked into the violence.  A review described it as a love letter to the horror genre and I like that; that's what it is.

"The Red One camera after the end of an average day."

Brian  S- When and where will we be able to find this cool horror gem?

RAM- We're going to have a screening here in Philadelphia in the early Spring and it's going to be at theCinema Slaughter Horror Festival (http://cinemaslaughter.webs.com/neighborexclusivefeature.htm) on April 23rd (at midnight) in Los Angeles.  I believe there are one or two abroad that I'm missing and can update you on.  These screenings and festivals are the way to guarantee that you're seeing the unrated, unaltered version of the movie.  There should be announcement concerning an official release this Spring.

"Christian Campbell, Robert Angelo Masciantonio and America Olivoon set"

Brian  S- What other projects do you have going on?

RAM- We're trying to wrap up funding for "haunted", a throwback haunted house story.  I've spoken to America (Olivo) about a role in that and I've been talking to Tony Todd for a few months; I'm very psyched about that.  After that, I'm not sure... I'm attached to direct a romantic comedy, of all things, that I'm very excited about.  I've got a fantasy/drama that we may take off of the back burner.  Plus, the scripts for "neighbor 2" & "neighbor 3-d" are finished if the public would like to see them.

"I refuse to work on Sundays and have the puppet stand in for me."-RAM

Brian  S- You throw yourself in your movies sometimes, I just want to let you know I'm available for work and I make a great leading extra!

RAM- If you work for food and the promise of a dvd once the movie is finished, you're in.  I do it as a nod to Hitchcock and because I'm that narcissistic... I want to see my name on screen as many times as possible.  Just kidding.  A little.

.

"Robert, Robert Puppet, and 1st AD Michelle Pollino check a shot while Christian Campbellreviews his lines."

Brian  S- What has been or would be your dream project?

RAM- "An American Werewolf in London".  I've written a spec, mine's called "An American Werewolf", and have been trying to get it into the remakes producer's hands.  The original film has been a tremendous influence on me and I feel like I'd pay reverence to the original story while bringing some of the violence up to what the kids like to see today

Brian  S- Thanks for your time sir, I know there are a lot of fans waiting to see your 'neighbor'! I look forward to the next batch of projects ypu have in store for all of us fans! Oh and I'm serious about my role in your movies, I'm a star and I bring my own gardening tools for my kill scenes and I really do work cheap, I'm ok with peanuts but I do like the dollar menu at BK!

Special FX man Vincent Guastini did the cool ass FX for neighbor and shared some press with us! Check this out what we have in store for us! This guy is the best in the business too!

V.G.P. Effects for the Film “neighbor “gets nonstop raves for innovative, never seen done before Effects reactions after the premiere screening of the film at Fantasia !

“But really, what this film is all about and what will ultimately cement its status as an instant cult classic is the gore, sweet gore.  Neighbor is a true blood-lover's delight, and the credit for this has to go to special effects makeup artist Vincent Guastini (Requiem for a Dream); what his team was able to accomplish on such a small budget is nothing short of phenomenal.”

“there's no way all of the onscreen carnage will be approved for release to the masses.  We can always hope for a director's cut DVD”

“Neighbor is a must-see for gorehounds and fans of in-your-face horror.”

“The film features some innovative, shocking gore, but there’s nothing fun about it, despite how much fun our villain seems to be having; it’s nasty stuff. Where most films would cut away, NEIGHBOR keeps going, revelling in the bloody details. The film has invited comparisons to Miike’s AUDITION”

“visual sleight-of-hand, the distressingly convincing make-up effects, which include several we’ve never seen done before,”

“the violence shockingly inventive (by far the most brutal film at Fantasia this year”
