Neil Patrick Harris will be the Lead in SMURFS: THE MOVIE

Sony's 3D live-action/CGI hybrid adaptation The Smurfs will indeed be all up in your smurfing face... whether you like it or not.

Smurfs: The Movie is being directed by Raja Gosnell, who has plenty of experience with live-action/CGI, having helmed both Scooby-Doo films, and most recently directing Beverly Hills Chihuahua. Yup, this movie has no hope. Furthermore, it was written by Shrek 2 and Are We There Yet scribes David Stem and David Weiss.

The only saving grace so far is that comedy legend Jonathan Winters has been cast as the voice of Papa Smurf, the leader of the Smurfs.

Now it is being reported that Neil Patrick Harris has been cast as the lead live action character in the film.

Filming will begin in April, when Harris will be on hiatus from his CBS sitcom How I Met Your Mother.

Harris is great, but I have as much interest in this as I did Alvin and the Chimpunks and Garfield. None.

What do you think of Harris playing the lead role in SMURFS: THE MOVIE?
