Guy Ritchie to Direct King Arthur Movie Star Wars Style?

So here's a fascinating rumor that has hit the web today. Apparently the director of Sherlock Holmes, Guy Ritchie, is attached to direct a new version of Excalibur, the story of King Arthur for Warner Bros., and it is described as being in the tone of Star Wars.

This is the same Excalibur film treatment that Warren Willis was writing last year that we reported on. Ellis described the film being different "from the prior 751 King Arthur movies in many ways, but perhaps most obviously in that it is very specifically about the gathering of the Knights.”

This is the second Excalibur project that is being pushed into production. Warner Bros. has another project set up with Bryan Singer attached to direct. The one he's supposed to do is more of a direct remake of John Boorman's Excalibur. Singer has so much on his plate right now though, who knows when he'll get around to making it. As of right now he's got, X-Men First Class at Fox, Battlestar Galactica at Universal and Jack and the Giant Killer at the WB.

Before Ritchie tackles this new Star Wars-style Excalibur film he's got to finish up Sherlock Holmes 2, so it won't be happening any time soon. The project is currently out to screenwriters.

What are your thoughts on this Warren Ellis Guy Ritchie Excalibur film?
