Harold & Kumar Writers Will Also Direct AMERICAN PIE 4

Movie by Eli Reyes

It's been known since February that Harold & Kumar writer-creators Jon Hurwitz and Hayden Schlossberg would be ushering in the proper American Pie theatrical features after a slew of forgettable (yet successful) direct-to-DVD spin-offs, by scripting American Pie 4, which seeks to reunite the cast of the original movies (though no deals have been made.)

Universal must be very pleased with the work they've done on the script so far, because they have brought the duo on to direct the comedy as well. Hurwitz and Schlossberg have only directed one film, the Harold & Kumar sequel, Harold & Kumar Escape from Guantanamo Bay. They were tentatively inline to direct the third installment of their franchise, A Very Harold & Kumar Christmas, with their new high-profile gig, they will be handing directing duties for their holiday-themed sequel they scripted over to music video and commercial director Todd Strauss Schulson.

Writing and directing American Pie 4 brings everything full circle for Hurwitz and Schlossberg, who's original stabs at screenwriting in the late ’90s were designed to bring back the R-rated comedy. When the first American Pie was released in 1999, they saw that someone — writer Adam Herz — had beaten them to the  punch.

A nice little update from the last we heard about A Very Harold & Kumar Christmas from John Cho, is he and his co-star Kal Penn have completed deals to reprise their roles.

Penn has had a bit of a complicated schedule, seeing as the past year he has served an associate director in the White House's Office of Public Liaison and Intergovernmental Affairs for the Obama Administration.

Schulson’s deal hasn't been closed yet. But the movie looking to roll cameras this summer, with aims for a Holiday 2010 release.

What do you think of Jon Hurwitz and Hayden Schlossberg directing and writing AMERICAN PIE 4? What do you think of HAROLD & KUMAR 3 coming together?
