Losers Director Sylvain White says he Might do ROBOTECH

Movie by Joey Paur

Director Sylvain White, whose next film The Losers opens up later this month recently confirmed at WonderCon that he is most definitely interested in developing the feature film live-action version of Robotech, which is based off the incredible 1980's animated sci-fi TV series.  This is actually the first time I've even heard he was potentially attached to the project. There's no deal in place right now, but who's to say it won't be made at some point? Here's what he told the fans at WonderCon this weekend.

Well, it's not a project that's greenlit, so you know, ... It's a great cult series. When it came out, I actually saw it in France, growing up. I saw it in French. It's a pretty amazing cartoon. And I'm hoping it's going to come to fruition. I read a draft that's really good. ... I'm interested in doing it, but the project is not fast tracked or anything like that, so there's no official thing. There's no deal. ... They sent me a draft. I liked it. It's a work in progress.

The film is being produced by Tobey Maguire, and the script for the film has gone through several different writers which include Smallville's Miles Millar and Alfred Gough, as well as Raider's of the Lost Ark's Lawrence Kasdan.

As for White directing the series... I can't say I'm a big fan of his, he hasn't really done anything that I've liked. This is the same guy that directed Stomp The Yard, but he's also attached to direct the comic book adaptation of Frank Miller's Ronin, and now he might end up directing Robotech somewhere down the line? The guy has gone from making crap films to developing these big popular film projects. I'll wait until I see The Losers before I pass judgment on if he is a good director or not and if he deserves to make these high profile projects.

What do you think about Sylvain possibly directing Robotech somewhere in the future?
