Barry Sonnenfeld to Direct DreamWorks Animated Greek Mythology film PIG SCROLLS

Pig Scrolls is yet another film that plans on diving into the whole Greek mythology fad in Hollywood. We’ve seen films such as Clash of the Titans, which sucked, Percy Jackson, which sucked, then there are two other Greek mythology films being remade such as  Jason and the Argonauts, written by Zac Penn and another Hercules film based off of the Sean Hood script. I don’t have high hopes for either of these films after watching Clash of the Titans, that movie just killed it.

Now the fantastic cinematographer turned good director Barry Sonnenfeld has joined up with DreamWorks animation to develop a new film called Pig Scrolls.

The film is based on a novel by Paul Shipton about a talking pig named Gryllus and his endeavors to save the world. Gryllus, who was once a member of captain Odesseus’ famous crew, was transformed into a pig by the deity Circe. Set in Ancient Greece, the book makes many references to Greek mythology and includes all of the major Greek gods, as well as some minor deities.

After watching How to train Your Dragon, my faith has been restored in DreamWorks Animations ability to make an amazing film. So I hope this book is adapted properly into a film. I will say the screenwriter they have working on the film kind of worries me because he wrote both Racing Stripes and Space Chimps, both awful animated films. As far as Sonnenfeld goes I’ve enjoyed his Men in Black films and his Pushing Daisies TV show. He’s currently working on developing a few other film projects such as Men in Black 3The Spellman Files, and Swift, but all of those projects are all in early development, which could allow for Sonnenfeld to fully jump into Pig Scrolls.

By the way, I hate the title of this film. Pig Scrolls is such a turn off title.
