Hugo Weaving Officially Cast as Red Skull in Captain America!

We brought you the news last month that Hugo Weaving was in talks with Marvel about joining the cast of Captain America in which he would play the villain Red Skull. Now today I am extremely happy to tell that Marvel has officially announced that Weaving will indeed play Red Skull in Captain America: The First Avenger!

Weaving joins the already cast Chris Evans as Steve Rogers A.K.A Captain America and Hayley Atwell, who plays the WW II French Resistance fighter Peggy Carter. The film is the Captain America origin story and will focus on the early days of the Marvel Universe when Steve Rogers volunteered to participate in the experimental program that turned him into the famous Super Soldier.

Weaving was last seen in the Joe Johnston directed film The Wolfman in which he was the best part. So this will be the second time he works with Johnston in a film. He’s also appeared famously in the Matrix andLord of the Rings films, as well as the voice of Megatron in the  Transformers movies.

Weaving is going to be an awesome Red Skull! I can't wait to see how they portray these characters up on the big screen!

Captain America will be released in the U.S. on July 22, 2011.
