Tom Cruise Confirms Brad Bird is Directing MISSION IMPOSSIBLE 4

As you know by now Tom Cruise and J.J. Abrams has decided to take on another impossible mission. Mission Impossible 4 is pressing forward at Paramount Pictures and there has been a lot of talk of Pixar director Brad Bird being brought on board to direct the next film in the franchise, which is great! The guy is a fantastic storyteller and the only reason I have any interest in seeing another Mission Impossible film.

It has now been confirmed by Tom Cruise that Brad Bird will indeed direct Mission Impossible 4… thank you! Edgar Wright was also in the running, but he obviously for one reason or another didn’t get the gig, and as much as I think Wright is an extremely talent guy and I love his movie, I’m still glad the job went to Bird.

Here is what Cruise told Empire when asked about Wright and Bird:

I dig Edgar. Very nice guy, very smart, very talented, I’d really like to do something with him. I met Edgar on the set of Mission 3. Simon Pegg and those guys are hilarious. I love Shaun Of The Dead. It’s amazing. But we’re working with Brad right now. I don’t know if I’m allowed to talk about it but everything’s signed... Brad is doing it.

Allowed to talk about it or not… he sure did talk about it. He’s Tom Cruise, what are they gonna do? Tell him he can’t be in Mission Impossible 4? Crusie goes on to say,

The Iron Giant, The Incredibles, Ratatouille – Brad is enormously talented and JJ and I are having a blast, cranking away. We’re having a lot of fun. I like working with people I just love hanging out with. You get to hang out and laugh and talk stories and movies and technology: what are we going to do?

I’ll tell ya what you’re gonna do! You’re gonna go out and make the best damn Mission Impossible film that you can! At least that’s what I’m hoping for. I’m just happy that Bird will be directing the film. This will be his first live-action movie, and I’m really looking forward to seeing what he will be able to do with the franchise.

What do you think about Bird directing MI4?
