New Image From Matt Reeves LET ME IN

Yesterday we brought you the first official image from Matt Reeves' new film Let Me In, which is a remake of the classic Swedish film Let the Right One In. I'm still not sure way Reeves thinks he needed to remake this movie, but I doubt it will be as good as the original. Well, a new photo for the film was released, which gives us a first look at Kodi Smit-McPhee as Owen and another look at Chloe Moretz as Abby. If you remember the original, this is the scene in the story where Owen gives Abby the Rubiks cube. 

The director gave an interview to the LA Times in which he continues to try and tell us his version of the movie is going to be good. Here are a few things he had to say.

We tried to create the approaching, foreboding dread of movies like 'The Shining,' where you feel like something wicked is unraveling and it's not going to end well. That's what I responded to about the original, the juxtaposition of those tones, this very disturbing story but at the center of it there are these very tender emotions. That's a very unusual mix, and that's what drew me in and dug into me.

One of the fun things about doing genre is you can kind of smuggle in real stuff, so it kind of charges the metaphor. It's a giant monster coming down the street, but it's really about anxiety. This is a vampire movie, but really it's about the pain of adolescence.

In the same sense I want the photography to have this kind of messy realism, to be beautiful but gritty. I want the effects to feel believable. I want people to think back later and say, 'I don't even know if that's an effect.' I don't want anything that pulls you out. It's not going to feel like a movie with a crazy number of effects. It's, hopefully, going to feel like an intimate coming-of-age story.

So if you don't want to wait for this Let Me In remake, then just go out and rent the original Let the Right One In and watch it now if you haven't already. If you have seen the original then there's no point in watching the remake.

It's like Reeve's is going to make a shot for shot remake, with the same feel and style as the original film. So again I ask the question what the hell is the point! It's going to be in English with different actors.
