Russell Crowe Attached to THE EQUALIZER

Russell Crowe went ahead and attached himself to play the lead role in a new film called The Equalizer, which of course is based on the 1985 TV series with Edward Woodward. There will come a time when Hollywood would have adapted every 1980's TV show into a movie. Once they've done that they'll start remaking them.

Crowe will play Robert McCall, an aging New York vigilante with a mysterious past. But i'll unlock the mystery for you. McCall was a former secret agent of an unnamed organization, which was often referred to simply as The Agency, who tries to atone for his sins by offering, free of charge, his services as a troubleshooter, a protector, and an investigator. People in need find him through a newspaper ad: "Got a problem? Odds against you? Call the Equalizer."

Aided by a group of mysterious contacts, McCall traverses the streets of New York City, visiting justice upon hoodlums, rapists, racists, murderers, kidnappers, drug dealers, and other truly deserving people. His contacts are also prone to human foibles, ranging from egotism to domestic problems.

The TV series took ideas from popular spy films and private investigator shows with violent realism. The show ran for four highly rated seasons and was notable for its atmospheric theme tune.

As of right now, there is no script for the film, and no studio backing up the project. All it has now is Crowe, and producer Mace Neufeld who is working with Escape Artists, which is the production company that made remake of The Taking of Pelham 1 2 3. With Crowe attached, the project should have no problem finding a studio and funding.

What do you think about Russell Crowe as The Equalizer, or just the fact that the TV series is being adapted into a movie?
