John Lithgow and Freida Pinto Cast in RISE OF THE APES

For some reason John Lithgow and Freida Pinto have signed on to co-star in the Planet of the Apes prequel titled Rise of the Apes

They will join James Franco who plays a scientist researching Alzheimer's who, through his experiments, evolves an ape called Caesar to the point that he begins to lead his species to world domination.

Lithgow is set to play Franco's character's father who suffers from Alzheimer's, and Pinto takes the female lead in the film as a primatologist who also works in the lab.

The film is being directed by Rupert Wyatt (The Escapist), and the screenplay was written by Amanda Silverand Rick Jaffa. The movies is scheduled to start shooting on July 5th of 2010, and is set to be released in theaters on June 24th 2011.

Here is the plot synopsis for the film.

RISE OF THE APES (tentative title) is an origin story in the truest sense of the term. Set in present day San Francisco, the film is a reality-based cautionary tale, a science fiction/science fact blend, where man’s own experiments with genetic engineering lead to the development of intelligence in apes and the onset of a war for supremacy.

What do you think about Lithgow and Pinto joining the cast of Planet of the Apes?
