Tim Burton's Stop-Motion ADDAMS FAMILY Movie is Moving Forward

A few months ago we reported that Tim Burton was going to develop a reboot of the classic The Addams Family in stop-motion animation. It's now been confirmed by producer Christopher Meledandri that the film production is moving forward, and that Burton will in fact be involved with the project, but there's no word yet on if he will direct it or not. Meledandri had this to say,

It's all very, very early, but we are developing with [Tim Burton directing] in mind... We're just now at the story phase. Stuff has been written as though we are doing it in black and white, but that's not correct. It's not incorrect, but it's not correct. We haven't gotten to that point.

This new reincarnation of The Addams Family will be more inspired by the original comic source material from Charles Addams than the previous adaptations, and there's a chance it will be in black and white which I think would be cool. This film will in no way be related to the 1960's TV series or the Barry Sonnenfeld directed movies from the 90's. The project will stand on it's own. Burton's intention is to go back to the the original Addams illustrations that displayed a sharper wit than what could be placed into a 60s family TV series.

Burton is extremely creative and talented when it comes to his stop-motion animated films, and designs. I don't think it's hard to predict how this movie will turn out. We know what it will look like, who will be cast as the voices, and of course Danny Elfman will do the music, but this is a great property with some fun characters that will be fun to see brought back to life.
