iPhone 4 Just Revealed by Apple: "The Thinnest Smartphone on the Planet"

Steve Jobs took center stage today at 10 AM PDT at the World Wide Developers Conference, facing the mass of tech-hungry magazines, newspapers and bloggers alike. For the last two years Apple has revealed their new iPhone at WWDC, so the audience was understandably bustling about the potential unveiling of their rumored 4G Iphone, much like the one that was leaked here:

5,200 attendees listened intently as Steve Jobs talked about the popularity of the iPad; They have sold over two million of these babies in 10 countries. Apple is currently selling an iPad every 3 seconds.

Next to come up, the CEO of Zynga games (who brought us Mafia Wars and Farmville) went on to boast a user base of 70 million. Apparently, more people play these games than watched the season finales of 24 and Lost combined! Soon we'll be able to satisfy our digital farming fantasies anywhere as Farmville hits the App Store by the end of this month. Guitar Hero was also announced for the Store, and then Mr. Jobs hopped back on the mic.

Suddenly, the iPhone 4.

The battery is 16 % bigger while still being 24% thinner than the previous iPhone, measuring 9.3 mm in thickness. A cutting-edge steel band runs along the seams of the phone; this functions as the antenna. One rim of the phone is the antenna WiFi, Bluetooth and GPS while the opposing side is optimized for transmitting and receiving calls.

Want to browse on a wireless connection for 10 hours without your battery dying? No problem! With the iPhone 4's new A4 processor, you can. It is capable of 6 hours of 3G browsing and 7 hours of talk time, a 40% improvement from the previous generation. How can they pull this off? The main processor is coupled with a PowerVR SGX 535 graphic card and two 128MB sticks of RAM, as well as the larger battery.

When presented with the iPhone 4's new display, which Jobs urges is like “a fine printed book,” the audience lit up almost as bright. While our eyes can only recognize 300 pixels per inch when something is held 10-12 inches away from us, Steve insists that this new display is “comfortably over” that limit with its new retinal display technology. Here is the difference between the two screens:

If you're like me, you can't stop yourself from wanting to snap quality photos of your daily life. The new iPhone 4 has a 5x digital zoom and in-camera 'app and tap' to focus with LED flash. The amazing thing is a backside illuminated sensor with a 1.75 micron pixel size. From action shots to macro pictures, Apple claims to do it all.

You'll also have no trouble recording videos and storing them on your 32 GB internal hard drive. Did I mention these videos would be captured in HD? Users will be able to record, edit, and render videos entirely on the phone.

Another interesting announcement is that Apple will open up 3D rendering programs to developers, allowing them to create better games and applications than ever before. Despite a name that borders on inanity, “Facetime” is an application that could revolutionize the industry standard. It connects iPhone users face-to-face with each other in the virtual space. All you need is a WiFi connection.

Think of all the possibilities! All of this will be offered June 21st at a price point that doesn't break the bank; $199 for the 16 GB model, and $299 for the 32 GB.

Lightweight, thin, sexy.. Apple has yet again raised the bar for smart phones, and other manufacturers will be playing catch-up for a while.
