The beautiful, funny and very cool Asa Hope who plays Tina Sheraton in Tim Sullivan's 2001 Maniacs: Field of Screams is my next "victim", I mean my next stop on my continuing "Road to the Maniacs" leading up to the films release on July 20th. She let's us in on a little behind the scenes fun and how she got involved with this highly anticipated sequel so check it out below you Damn Yankees! Brian S- How did you get involved with 2001 Maniacs: Field of Screams? Asa- Well, I have to give thanks to Breck Eisner for recasting me in his latest feature, The Crazies, but feeling bad enough about it to still bring to set, to stand in and extra. Where I met Matt Thompson, the real being of my discovery! Hehe, A true friend that instantly thought of me when some of the casting on 2001 Maniacs fell through. Matt convinced Tim that he should at least bring me in and audition me, from there the rest is history! Brian S- Tell me a little about your character. Asa- Tina is a mix of Nicole Richie and Anna Faris. She is a spoiled little brat who gets whatever she wants. She and her sister are on the way to “fame” with their new reality show, and dreamy boy toys. However, I think she get a taste of reality when Maniacs show no mercy, this is one situation where heels and lip gloss are of no service! Brian S- Ok, I’ve heard a lot of fun behind the scenes stories already, do you have any to share? Asa- I’m sure you have heard of Tim’s spontaneous swimming session, and chiggers are always good… But I still getta kick out of my big scream scene. Mike Greene and Danny Wayne made me so nervous for this scene because of the blood and guts special effects going on in the scene we only had one take, I really had to bring my A game. After Mike Greene miserably failed at teaching me to scream, Charlie Parrish (stunts) took me back into the woods, got in my face and pushed me around and said the meanest things to me until I learned to scream with no holding back! “Ouch Charlie, that really hurt” ;) Brian S- Had you seen Tim’s 2001 Maniacs before you even got involved with the sequel? Asa- No, I had never heard of 2001 Maniacs until I was sent the script of the sequel, I definitely rented it before shooting Field of Screams. Brian S- How was it working alongside some cool genre vets like Bill Moseley, Lin Shaye and Christa Campbell? Asa- The first day I was very nervous, and these guys were amazing! My first scene shot included the three, and to see them bring this… character written from a piece paper to life was something I had really never seen before. The entire shoot they were helpful and nice and so welcoming to this small town Iowa girl. On and off the set and even more so after being together post shooting they are some cool cats and people I will always consider not just an acquaintance but as a friend. Brian S- How about working with Tim Sullivan? Asa- Awe man, what a Tyrant! If you could only hear this man and all of his demands!! Ha Ha. No, Tim is really wonderful. This being my first principle role working closely hand on hand with the director, Tim made it really great. He always had an open door, you could talk to him about anything and share ideas and suggestions. I always hear horror stories of grueling directors, so I am very thankful Tim made my first feature an astonishing experience, and something I will never forget. Brian S- Sounds like it was just a really cool filming adventure, right? Asa- Between the chiggers, the unflattering layers of bug spray caked on your body, airplanes, and mud this was definitely an adventure. I felt like I was at camp the whole time! You made new friends, became a family, and together in two short weeks we made a kick ass feature that breaks all the rules. Brian S- Ok, getting back to your character, ummm can you tell me if you live or not? Asa- You may think Rome and Tina are just a bunch of dumb blondes, but “fashion” and bubble gum can go a long way! Not to mention willing to sacrifice the other “Road Rascals” to save our own butts! Brian S- Well, will you be at the premiere in LA on July 15th? Asa- Of course, I will be! It’s about time the Maniacs showed LA what’s up. Brian S- Big Question here Asa, sum up 2001 Maniacs: Field of Screams in one word! Asa- As Tina would say “OMG” *Courtesy of Bloody-Disgusting* Brian S- Ok, Asa, would you like to say anything to all the cool 2001 Maniacs fans that’s looking forward to Field of Screams? Asa- You’re gonna need Popcorn, Diet Coke, M &M’s, aaannnddd Sour Patch Kids for this one folks!
