THE AVENGERS Film to Bust out the S.H.I.E.L.D. Helicarrier!?

Hey Gang! A very interesting rumor has his the net, and it involves Marvel's highly anticipated film The Avengers. At least I think it's still highly anticipated, after Marvel kicked Norton to the curb as Hulk, there's been a lot of fan disapproval. But I guess they will try to make up for it in other ways.

Bleeding Cool recently reported that The Avengers will shoot in Manhattan, and that they will bust out the S.H.I.E.L.D. Helicarrier, which would be awesome to see brought to life on the big screen!

According to one of our very well placed sources (think: USA, west coast, sunny, lots of big buildings that look like warehouses, people zipping about in electric carts) Joss Whedon’s movie version of The Avengers will be shooting in Manhattan next year. What exactly will go before the cameras isn’t yet known – or, if we’re being honest, hasn’t even been completely decided – but the plan at the moment definitely involves the SHIELD Helicarrier. And apparently there's' going to be a great need for "Avengers" extras on the streets of Manhattan next year.

If you don't already know, the Helicarrier is a fictional flying aircraft carrier specifically designed to be itself capable of independent powered flight in addition to the conventional functions of aircraft carriers. It is the signature capital ship of the fictional intelligence/defense agency S.H.I.E.L.D. Bleeding cool continues saying,

Design teams have been working on The Avengers for some time, even before the appointment of Joss Whedon as director, and have developed some ideas of how much of the film will look. As regards some key items – including the Helicarrier – the concept artists shared their preliminary designs with the producers of the Marvel 4D exhibit at London’s Madame Tussauds in order to create some consistency.

You can watch the trailer for that below. We are treating this as a rumor for now, but I honestly don't see why it wouldn't be included... they might as well throw it in there.

The Avengers starts production in February of 2011, and as far as we know it will star the confirmed Robert Downey Jr. (Iron Man), Samuel L. Jackson (Nick Fury), Chris Evans (Captain America), Chris Hemsworth (Thor), and Scarlett Johansson (Black Widow). Unconfirmed casting includes Jeremy Renner (Hawkeye), Nathan Fillion (Ant-Man), and Eva Longoria (Wasp). The film is set to be released in theaters May 4, 2012.
