Comic-Con 2010: Battle: Los Angeles

During the Sony panel in Hall H we were able to get a little glimpse at the upcoming movie Battle: Los Angeles.  This movie stars Aaron Eckhart and Michelle Rodriguez.  It is directed by Jonathan Liebsman.
At first I thought this was going to be just another B movie looking alien film.  Thankfully I was wrong.  Let me break it down for you.
When Earth is attacked by an alien invasion, Los Angeles become one of the biggest battlegrounds.  After we put up a fight for LA the military decides that hope is lost and the city needs to be destroyed.  Three hours before the bombs drop, the Marines receive a distress signal letting them know that there are still some people left in what they thought was an evacuated city.  So, they send in a single unit to extract the stranded people and get them out before everything that we know as Los Angeles is gone.
Aaron Eckhart and Michelle Rodriguez are trying to get everyone out in time.
I kind of rolled my eyes when I was listening to them talk about it, and then they showed the clip.  That is when my opinion changed.  From the footage that they showed, the alien ships and the aliens themselves were unlike what we have seen before.  Also, they went a very interesting way with the weaponry.  Most alien films we see they have heavy duty laser guns, but in Battle: Los Angeles the aliens have what appears to  be hard weapons.  What I mean by that is it looks like they use bullets and bombs much like ours.  Of course they are a little different.
The panel was pretty entertaining.  They only touched on the plot and synopsis of the movie a little bit because they didn't want to give away too much.  They went into the training that they did in preparation for this film.  It seemed like the panel was a little rushed so we didn't get too much info about the film.  But based on what we saw, I think I will give this movie a chance.  I'm not thinking that it will be the next award winner, but it will be a great popcorn flick.  As we find out more, we will give that info to you.  Until next time, let us know what you think.
