Ian Mckellen Isn't Going to Wait Around for THE HOBBIT

Will someone please put The Hobbit into production already! The movie is falling apart for crying out loud! MGM just needs to cut it's losses and sell the damn rights off so that this movie can get made already! They are the ones that are holding up production.

The next casualty of the film could be Sir Ian Mckellan who played Gandalf in the Lord of the Rings. Even though there's been no officially casting announced for The Hobbit yet, McKellan has always been pretty much attached to to reprise his role in the next two middle earth films. But it looks like there's a possibility he won't do the film.

In a recent interview with Today New Zealand Mckellen has this to say,

Well, I’m not under contract and my time is running out, and I’m enjoying working in the theatre. And frankly, I would like to race after doing Waiting For Godot, get on with doing another play, but we’ll have to see. I don’t give the producers the impression that I’m sitting waiting.

So he's not waiting round for it to get made, and if he gets another acting gig and he gets busy then we could lose McKellen as Gandalf. I think this would be worse than losing Guillermo del Toro as a director. McKellen is Gandalf, I just can't imagine anyone else playing that character. If he doesn't end up playing him... fans are going to be pissed.

What do you all think about the possibility of Mckellen not playing Gandalf?
