Universal Wants James McAvoy to star in AT THE MOUNTAINS OF MADNESS, but Guillermo Del Toro Wants Tom Cruise

Guillermo del Toro is ready to start casting his next film project At The Mountains of Madness, but it looks like he and the studio don't see eye to eye on who should star in the film.

According to Collider, Universal Pictures wants to cast James McAvoy (Wanted) as the lead character in the movie. Del Toro however is more interested in bringing in Tom Cruise to star in the film. Chris Pine's name is also in the mix, I guess if Cruise or McAvoy don't work out they'll go after Pine.

We know that Del Toro has wanted to work with Crusie, he was attached to the Van Helsing project that Del Toro was producing at one point. If Del Toro gets his way Tom Cruise will be the star of this movie, and I don't think that Crusie would turn it down at this point for the fact that he's loosing his edge and needs a great movie under his belt.

Personally, I don't care who ends up starring in the film, I'm just excited to see what Del Toro has planned for us! Del Toro could cast anyone in the role, and I would be just as interested in the film as ever. The story is fantastic, Del Toro's a great director, and James Cameron is on board to help bring the film to life technically. This movie can't loose!

The story is written in first-person perspective by the geologist William Dyer, a professor from Miskatonic University. He writes to disclose hitherto unknown and closely kept secrets in the hope that he can deter a planned and much publicized scientific expedition to Antarctica. On a previous expedition there, a party of scholars from Miskatonic University, led by Dyer, discovered fantastic and horrific ruins and a dangerous secret beyond a range of mountains taller than the Himalayas.

Who do you want to see in the lead role? Do you support Del Toro with Cruise or Universal with McAvoy?
