Kate Beckinsale Officially Signs on for UNDERWORLD 4
Here's some great news for fans of the Underworld franchise, Kate Beckinsale has officially signed on to return as Selene in Underworld 4! I'm glad to see that she's going to reprise her role in this franchise, she was missed in the last film. We've known for some time now that she would return, but now it's officially official.
Underworld 4 was written by John Hlavin which had a little rewrite by J. Michael Straczynski. The film will be produced by Len Wiseman, the director of the first two Underworld films, but it looks like he won't be directing this time around as previously thought. Screen Gems and Lakeshore are currently looking for a director.
As you know Beckinsale appeared in both Underworld and Underworld: Evolution. She didn't return for 2009's Underworld: Rise of the Lycans. In the third film the a younger Selene appeared in flashbacks, where she was portrayed by Lily Mo Sheen, Beckinsale's real-life daughter.
Underworld 4 also has an open part for Selene's fictional daughter, as previously reported the character Seline will "pass the torch" to one of her two daughters. This means that the story line will take place after the the events of Rise of the Lycans.
Production on the film will begin March 2011 in Vancouver.
