Robert Downey Jr. Starring In PEABODY AND SHERMAN For DreamWorks Animation

Robert Downey Jr. is set to voice a role in the DreamWorks Animation film Peabody and Sherman.

The movie is based on the cartoon created in the late 50's and 60's about a genius dog Mr. Peabody (RDJ) and his pet boy, Sherman who travel back in time with their creation, the WABAC Machine, and meet up many great figures from history along the way . Rob Minkoff will direct the project set for release in 2014, which aims to bring the cartoon back into the pop culture mainstream.

Jeffrey Ventimilia and Joshua Sternin (writers of The SimpsonsThat ’70s Show and screenplay for Yogi Bear) have written the script. Minkoff is keeping which historical figures Peabody and Sherman will meet under wraps but did reveal that the film will focus on time travel, as well as their origin story.

According to Minkoff,

“Mr. Peabody is this genetic anomaly. He does have brothers and sisters, all of them non-speaking, no super-smart dogs. He’s an outcast, but has overcome it by being so great at so many things.” Sherman, on the other hand, is not dimwitted, but admittedly wide-eyed and naive. That role hasn’t yet been cast.

According to Minkoff, DreamWorks is going with a full animation 3D film. A concept image of the new Mr. Peabody has already been designed and will be shown in the next issue of Entertainment Weekly, out January 21.
