Bryan Singer Directing Bob Fosse Biopic For HBO

Bryan Singer is set to direct an untitled Bob Fosse biopic for HBO Films. The film will be based on Bye, Bye Life: The Loves and Deaths of Bob Fosse, a forthcoming biography from Sam Wasson. Neil Meron and Craig Zadan (Hairspray and Chicago and the remake of Footloose) will executive produce the film with Singer. The film will be a joint production venture with Sony Television. There have yet to be any writers hired for the project.

Fosse was a talented actor, dancer, choreographer and stage and screen director, Fosse presented a version of his life in his autobiographical 1979 feature All That Jazz turned into an Oscar-winning film starring Roy Scheider. It is definitely a film worth watching and Scheider did an amazing job of capturing Fosse. 

If you were wondering where the term "Jazz Hands" came from it is a result of Bob Fosse's work. Fosse created his own jazz dance style, full of bowler hats, jazz hands, angular hip thrusts and shrugging shoulders. On Broadway, he went on to direct and choreograph such shows as Redhead, Sweet Charity, Pippin and Chicago. Wasson has a lot of knowledge about Fosse as a movie historian and author. He wrote A Splurch in the Kisser: The Movies of Blake Edwards as well asFifth Avenue, 5AM: Audrey Hepburn, Breakfast at Tiffany's and the Dawn of the Modern Woman.

Singer is very busy at the moment narrowing the list of actors to star in his big budget feature Jack the Giant Killer. He also is producing X-Men: First Classalong with Lauren Shuler Donner.
