Fox picks up comedy from Jonah Hill and Hannibal Buress

Fox has just acquired the rights to a new comedy series from Jonah Hill and standup comedian Hannibal Buress. Deadline reports that the network picked up the project with a blind script commitment plus penalty. Buress will star in the show, who's concept and format - single or multi-camera - are yet to be determined. 

20th Century Fox TV and 3 Arts are producing the show, with Hill and 3 Arts’ Dave Becky executive producing and Buress serving as a producer. Hill has a great relationship with Fox. He co-created, executive produces and voices the title character on the upcoming animated comedy series Allen Gregory, also from 20th TV. 

Here is what Hill had to say about the project:

“From the first time I saw Hannibal perform, I started banging down the door to be the person to help guide his unique voice and material to television. I feel lucky he chose me and my bosses at Fox.”

Buress has never starred in a show up until now. He's been writing for such shows as Saturday Night Live and 30 Rock. His standup comedy has been featured on several Comedy Central programs and latenight talk shows, including The Late Show with David Letterman and Late Night with Jimmy Fallon. Burees is based out of New York, and hosts a free weekly stand-up comedy show at The Knitting Factory in Brooklyn, NY.
