X-MEN: FIRST CLASS scribes to write TOP GUN sequel

X-Men: First Class scribes, Ashley Miller and Zack Stentz, are in negotiations to write a sequel to Top Gun for Paramount and Skydance Productions. Variety reports that Jerry Bruchkheimer and David Ellison are set to produce. At this time there there are no official comments form Paramount and Skydance.

As you can expect, plot details are non-existent. It is not known yet if Tony Scott or Tom Cruise will be involved in the sequel at this time. This is definitely a smart choice, Miller and Stentz did a phenomenal job with crafting a smart and entertainting blockbuster in X-Men, which made more than $350 million worldwide.

I know one thing, I feel the need for speed. This sounds like a great idea to me, even if Cruise or Scott may not be involved. I personally think that they may be a little too late for fans of the original, but it will serve as a way to attract current and new fans to the possible franchise. What are your thoughts on this?
