Alice Eve to star in J.J. Abrams' STAR TREK sequel

J.J. Abrams has found a new cast member for his highly anticipated Star Trek sequel. Variety reports that Alice Eve has been cast in a part that is believed to be new to the canon. The She’s Out of My League star beat out Teresa Palmer (I Am Number Four) and Hayley Atwell (Captain America: The First Avenger) for the role. Paramount declined to comment on this news, but her deal is expected to be locked down soon. She will hopefully star opposite Benicio del Toro, who’s deal is also pending to play the role of the villain in the sequel. They will join most fo the cast from the first film, including Chris Pine and Zachary Quinto.

Abrams is directing based on the script by Alex Kurtzman, Roberto Orci and Damon Lindelof. The sequel will be produced by Abrams, Kurtzman, Orci, Lindelof, Bryan Burk, and David Ellison under Bad Robot and Skydance Productions. Filming is slated to start in early 2012 with Paramount planning to release the pic on May 17, 2013.

Abrams is keeping everything quiet about the story, but  has just one more major role left to cast. It is rumored to be another villain, “someone who's older and in more of a supporting character to del Toro.”

I loved the first Star Trek and think that Alice Eve is a good addition to the cast. I wonder who else will be returning to star. What are your thoughts on this news?
