GROWN UPS 2 in the works at Sony Pictures - Sandler may star in first sequel

I had hoped that Jack and Jill had put Adam Sandler’s career on hold for a bit, but I am unfortunately wrong. Variety is reporting that a sequel to last year’s Grown Ups is in the works from Sony Pictures and Happy Madison Prods. Fred Wolf is in talks to write the sequel for Sandler’s highest-grossing film worldwide at $271 million.

This would be the first sequel that Sandler would star in, and at this time no deal is in place. Surprisingly Sandler’s involvement is contingent on the script!!  Scripts have never stopped him before, so I bet he will likely be interested in starring. The first film starred Sandler, Kevin James, David Spade, Chris Rock and Rob Schneider “as five friends who reunite over the 4th of July weekend to attend their youth basketball coach's funeral.”

Wolf has been working with Sandler since his days on SNL. Since then he has worked on movies like Black Sheep, Norm MacDonald’s Dirty Work. He later co-wrote Joe Dirt and Dickie Roberts: Former Child Star with Spade. He recently co-wrote and directed Strange Wilderness for Happy Madison, as well as directing The House Bunny for Sony.

I watched Grown Ups on DVD and found it mildly entertaining. As usual, the humor is lowest common denominator, consisting of piss and fart jokes. Sandler should have done a sequel to it instead of Jack and Jill in my mind, which bombed at the box office.
