Blu-ray Review: DUE DATE

"Due Date" really caught me by surprise and was a great watch.  The next buddy flick to come along features an unlikely pairing with Robert Downey  Jr. and Zach Galifianakis and is directed by Todd Phillips who also brought us movies like Old School and The Hangover.

Due Date puts two exact opposites together in a ride for their lives, literally. Robert Downey Jr.’s character  Peter Highman is finding it hard to get back across country to his pregnant wife when he meets up with Zazh Galifianakis’ character Ethan who is a wannabe actor and has this funny obsession with the TV show  Two and a Half Men.  The two go on a cross-country road trip that is fun to watch and yet sometimes really unbelievable.

Galifianakis saves this movie and has some unforgettable moments with his character Ethan, enough to have diet coke spew from your nose if you’re not careful. Downey Jr.'s character Peter is a little unlikable in the beginning but grows on you as the films develops. The two work great together in this film as you watch an awkward on-screen friendship form.  It is so evident that Due Date comes from the great mind of a guy who brought us go-to movies like Old School and The Hangover.  Due Date isn’t as good as either of Phillips' other hit films but it definitely has some hilarious bust-a-gut moments.

As Peter hurries to catch a flight home from Atlanta to be at his wife’s side for the birth, his best intentions go completely awry when an encounter with aspiring actor Ethan Tremblay (Zach Galifianakis) forces Peter to hitch a ride with Ethan on a cross-country trip that will ultimately destroy several cars, many friendships and Peter’s last nerve.
